Comments

Matthews was a translator, playwright, drama critic, and freelance writer. He also was a professor of literature at
Columbia University  from 1892 to 1900 and Columbia’s first professor of dramatic literature from 1900 to 1924. He
wrote an article about Narragansett Pier that appeared in Harper's Weekly magazine in 1906.
